Best shop in the Midwest for all your automotive needs. Efficient and quality work.
Courteous staff. Quick pickup. Excellent service.
It was a hot, hot day today when my minivan decided to stop working! And my 3 year old son was not doing so well! After waiting 40 mins for our original tow, we decided to call Purkey's, and they arrived in less than 15 minutes. Our driver was so nice and got us out of the heat immediately. He even stopped at a gas station and got us water and a few other things. He was our Hero today. Thank you Purkey's!
I love Purkey's. I've taken my last 4 vehicles to them. The only times I've gone elsewhere was when I broke down too far away to drive it there during normal business hours. I've had it towed from East Chicago and Hammond, just because I trust Brad with my vehicles.
In these several years, I don't feel like I've been jerked around or screwed just because they see a woman and think they can "get one over on me." I feel like I've been treated the same as a male customer walking into the shop. I know a couple of other customers who are more knowledgeable about cars and how much these things should cost who feel that his prices are fair.
This shop is quite busy. Always. If you're doing some repairs that aren't urgent or an oil change, it's best to call ahead and see if they can get you in.
If you're looking for an honest mechanic, look no further. These guys are fantastic.
Despite the 3 stars, I won't be returning. Brad is a very good mechanic and knows what he is doing. Although, I feel like he and his team cheated me out of money.
The first time I went to Purkey's was to replace a water pump. My landlord called them for me as he had done business with them before. I brought my own parts and everything went according to plan.
The second time was for a starter. I brought my own part from Auto Zone , which was brand new ( not refurbished) and the more expensive part. The mechanic said that the part didn't work. I was forced to use one of their starters and was charged extra to remove the part that "didn't work."
I went back to Auto Zone to return the "not working" part. They tested it 3 times and it was fine.
It was suspicious to me why a brand new part would simply not work. I won't go back there in fear that they might try to swindle me again. If you are a woman, never go see a mechanic without a man even if you know about cars. They will try to up charge you.
